Any idea what this is? Looks like a bat-house to me. It's kind of cute, but it has to be difficult to enjoy the bat activity the way you would watching birds come and go.
I'm assuming it is a bathouse. I know that people make them, not to enjoy seeing the bats, but to enjoy the reduction in insects that the bats provide.
Almost certainly a bat house. They usually have a narrow slow like that one and inside is probably a wire mesh for them to hang from.
Since they come out in early evening and dusk, you can watch them cruise around looking for bugs if you attract them to your yard. And since they do eat bugs, they will supposedly reduce the number of them in your yard in the evening (though I don't know how many bats you'd have to have to really notice a difference).

ReplyDeleteWe had bats that came out at night around our yard when I was growing up, and my dad taught biology for 30 years, so I picked up a thing or too.
