Apple and Liquid Metal

Recent news stories announced Apple's licensing of a company and a substance called Liquid Metal. A Gizmodo story details the applications Apple might be planning with Liquid Metal.

This neat video (if you like sciencey stuff) shows the elasticity of Liquid Metal.

Sure, having sturdier frames for the iPhone would be nice, but let's face it, the frames are pretty sturdy as they are - it's an aluminum alloy. Could a sturdier frame really be the only reason to use Liquid Metal? I don't think so.

I have a prediction - are you ready? Two words: 'Transparent metal'. The glass is the most fragile part of the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (I like 'iThing' as a collective term), and it's the component that really begs for innovation.

She's 23 Years OId. It's fine, really.

So I have a crush on Amy Pond, the latest companion on Doctor Who. It's fine. It's her attitude that I like best; she's sparky. For some reason, I like her most when she's peeved or freaked out.

In this last pic, the Doctor has just handed Amy an apple that she herself cut a smiley face on when she was 9 years old. That would indeed be freaky...

I was really excited about this new season, as you might have read here - but so far this year has not been up to my expectations, which to be fair are pretty high. Amy Pond is probably the best thing about the new season.

Matt Smith has been doing a fine job as the Doctor - I think it's the writing that's not up to snuff. Weeping Angels breaking people's necks? Come on.

Scuttlebleep

I read some scuttlebutt online recently - can't recall the site - but the gal who wrote the article had some pretty good evidence that there's something suspicious about iTunes programming and her iPod - namely, her iPod "is playing songs it wants me to buy more of".

With her 'all songs' playlist running on random shuffle, more than a random amount of the band Paramore was playing. Next, she opens iTunes to discover on the main page that the new Paramore album is now available for pre-order.

Only 50 out of 1,136 songs on the iPod were Paramore, yet the band came up one-in-ten times across 100 attempts when skipping to the next song. Hmm.

It certainly seems do-able that a 'random' function could be easily tweaked based on marketing decisions. Would that be underhanded on Apple's part? Or just another way advertizing has infiltrated our lives?

NTS: "Buy Apple"

Sometimes as I'm thinking back over my life, I'll realize good god, that was 15 years ago! Or worse, 25!

Some memories are so vivid that I get a little bit scared - feels as if I think too deeply about the past, I might POP! back to that point, and then I'd be stuck reliving all that stuff.

That's not to say reliving the good times wouldn't be fun, not that there wouldn't be opportunities to be had, but so much of it was boring.
