What do you folks know about online college courses? Any experience with them? The new job offers lots of tuition reimbursement, and I'd be silly not to take advantage of it.

From what I know (which, admittedly is not a huge amount), I would look for online courses from Universities that have good located programs as opposed to those that are online only. I don't if there is a huge difference in the education you might receive, but I know there would be a big difference in the perception were you to ever change jobs and have that on your resume.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it depends on what you are looking for--solid education or some beef for your CV (although the two should go hand in hand).

A curriculum vitae? Hell, I had one semester of college, 2 classes, and I got C's in both. Nothing to crow about.
ReplyDeleteThe HR woman at Wingular Cireless told me that they treat online courses with good esteem, and that it was more and more accredited all the time.
I have an in-law somewhere who went from her BA to her Masters (I think) using online classes, so it seems do-able... Need more info!
Once I start working, the company will probably be able to list institutions they recognize for quality.
